Osbourne House photo by English HeritageEast Cowes on the eastern bank at the mouth of the Medina River owes its growth to ship building over the centuries; and is one of the main car and passenger ferry points to the Isle of Wight from Southampton, now with fashionable marina developments East Cowes is hot on the heels of Cowes as a desirable location to access the Solent. Queen Victoria,  made her summer home at Osborne by acquiring and rebuilding Osborne House and spending many years living on the Island. East Cowes has a varied selection of Hotels, Guest Houses and Bed & Breakfast accommodation as well as Pubs, Bars, Restaurants and Cafes some with superb water front locations. A quaint chain ferry links East to West Cowes near the mouth of the Medina River.
