It boasts a natural harbour which has built trade over the centuries, so much so that King Henry VIII built a castle to protect the harbour and town from attack. The castle is now owned by English heritage and is open to Yarmouth Photo by Chris Boyntonthe public. Yarmouth is a bustling town with lots of amenities from sea fishing and sightseeing trips to deli's, pubs, hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops of all types, art galleries and a grade two listed timber pier some 700ft long which offers good fishing.

Yarmouth is blessed with some of the best cycling and hiking routes on the Island especially around the Yar estuary. Yarmouth has 2 main festivals the first being the Old gaffers festival usually held late May or early June with more than 100 Old Gaffers - gaff rigged boats - participating in the event which is complimented by shore based entertainment. The second being the Yarmouth carnival held in early August with lots of water and land based activities and  entertainment to join in and see.
