Beach walks with your dog on the Isle of Wight

ventnor Beach

Dogs like humans enjoy walking and running on

beaches splashing through surf and swimming, but

which beaches on the Isle of Wight is your pet

allowed on in the summer.

The good news is there are still plenty of beaches

where dogs are allowed to play; here are some

suggestions on where you can take your pooch. 

 

Puckpool Beach, Ryde
The Golden sands of Puckpool are open to dogs across a signed stretch east of Appley Tower. With nearby parking and cafes this pleasant family beach has great views of the mainland.

Seagrove Bay

The beach area from where the sea defences protrude towards the sea on the east side, west around Seagrove Bay especially good at low tide with lots of beach for the pooch to enjoy.

 

Priory Bay

This is a privately owned beach just to the west of Seagrove Bay (the owner allows dogs with responsible owners providing the beach is kept clean of waste) which can be reached via Seagrove Bay possibly the best beach on the Island secluded and a beautiful summers walk, masses of sand at low tide to play on.

 

St Helens Duver

Behind St Helens Duver a large natural grass area leading to the shore of Bembridge, and Port St Helens Harbour with a lovely causeway to walk over which leads to Port St Helens.

 

Bembridge harbour
From the Toll Gate cafe around the headland towards Bembridge village is a lovely walk especially around low tide where you can extend your walk up to the new Life boat station.

From the life boat Station & car Park turn right along the beach around Bembridge ledge past the steps which lead to the Crab & lobster Pub towards a cafe with wonderful sea views a great walk at low tide with lots to see.

Bembridge Cliffs & Beach
From Forelands Field Road to White Cliff Bay is a beautiful cliff walk with fantastic sea views at the end of the walk is white cliff bay a privately owned beach that dogs are not allowed on.

 Yaverland
The Beach to the north of the sailing club towards Culver Cliffs is open to dogs all summer; it's a lovely walk especially at low tide when you might find some fossils.

Shanklin
To the south of Shanklin Chine there is an area of beach heading towards Luccombe this is a great walk especially at low tide.

Bonchurch
At the bottom of Shore Road is an esplanade with a small beach area where dogs are allowed and in the opposite direction a paved walk along sea defences leading to Ventnor.

Steephill Cove Ventnor

This Little private beach is a popular place to enjoy the sea. It's just a short stroll from Ventnor west along the clifftop walk, no dog restrictions here.

Reeth Bay

Is a lovely bay near Niton the bay is a mixture of sand and pebbles which can be reached by road from Niton it is the most southerly point of the Island & is generally quiet with plenty of room for dogs to play.

West Wight
The spacious wild south west coast of the island includes many remote beaches as well as more popular locations such as Brook and Compton. There are a number of places to access these beaches, and dogs are not restricted here.

Fort Victoria Country park, Yarmouth
This country park has free parking and toilets a cafe and various attractions. It is a short walk from Yarmouth. At low tide offers an enjoyable route with panoramic Solent views, particularly around sunset open to dogs all year round.

Newtown
Newtown village and estuary has a number of beautiful walks leading to small beach areas where there are no restrictions on Dogs.

Thorness Bay near Cowes
Is a lovely beach area to be enjoyed where dogs can roam and wonderful sunsets can be enj
oyed.

Below is a link to a map showing all the area's on the island that are affected with restrictions , generally these are in operation between the end of April until the end of September, but always check the notice board in the area if you are not sure where your dog is allowed, and don't forget your poop scoop.
