There are plenty of great days out & Attractions on the Isle of Wight such as Black Gang Chine where the children can play on the numerous stalls or shoot cowboys with water pistols, have a go on a giant slide, learn about the Islands pirates, smugglers and famous ship wrecks that have happened off the islands rugged coast line.
Or there is the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll with the family around the Seaview Wild Life Encounter on the outskirts of Ryde where the children can help feed the penguins, stroke Kangaroos, watch the meercats (simple’s eek) & feed the ducks and geese.
The Needles Park at Alum Bay offers spectacular views of the Needles light house and over the channel. There are pleasure rides and a chair lift that takes you to the beach below where you can see the Isle of Wight famous multi coloured sand and take a boat trip to the light house.
In Sandown you can visit Dinosaur Isle, where you will come face to face with roaring Dinosaurs!! & fossils that have been found locally dating back to the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs lived. Just a bit further along the promenade is Tiger Island one of the largest tiger sanctuaries in the UK which is a part of Isle of Wight Zoo.
For the adults the Island has fantastic places to eat & drink with some excellent Pubs on the Isle of Wight many of which are more than happy for you to bring the kids along, some have either an indoor or outdoor play area so you can relax while the kids play and still keep an eye on them.
Why not visit Queen Victoria’s residence Osborne House in East Cowes stroll around the house and marvel at the grounds, enjoy the views of the coast which attracted Victoria & Albert to the Isle of Wight.
If your preference is Medieval Castles visit Carisbrooke Castle walk the battlements just like the medieval knight of old and see the room where king Charles 1 was imprisoned awaiting execution, there are activities for the younger children to enjoy too.
Do not forget to visit the village of Shanklin with its quaint thatched roofs and tea shops, giving you the feeling that you have just stepped back in time (albeit for the traffic!) or travel further inland to visit Godshill with its miniture village and quaint shops.
Winkle Street is in an idyllic village location with a stream running down the main street, near Calbourne in rural Wight giving you an insight into how life was in yester year.
The Isle of Wight also has some great music events happening regularly throughout the year the Isle of Wight festival being the most famous with its origins going back to the late sixties followed closely by the Bestival a quite unique boutique music festival held at Robin Hill Country park
If you have not 'tired out' the whole family during the day there are numerous shows taking place at Theatres on the Isle of Wight featuring many of the countries favourite artists and acts performing single night specials and tribute acts appearing over the summer months.
A must to see is the spectacular Cowes week regatta held every year at the beginning of August it is the world’s oldest & largest sailing regatta. This year they have introduced a Family Day on Sunday 7 August, a day of fun for the whole family, everyday throughout the event there are plenty of shoreside activities to be enjoyed by all.
