Jobs on the Isle of Wight

Add News

One of the hardest positions to find yourself in on the Isle of Wight is trying to find a job in this current climate.

With over 3000 people claiming job seekers allowance of which nearly 1000 of these are aged between 18 to 24 makes the situation particularly difficult especially with only just over 200 jobs shown to be available at the job centre’s on the island.

Activ Isle of Wight  jobs section on the website offers the latest jobs that are available on the Isle of Wight this part of the website has a comprehensive selection of job categories to look through

Another option is to try the private recruitment agencies on the Isle of Wight these can be found online & in the major towns on the Island. Jobs on the Isle of Wight can prove difficult to find in the winter time as the seasonal jobs which come with the summer tourism on the island have disappeared.

One way forward is to approach the major employers directly on the Island this includes the Isle of Wight Council who still have job vacancies & companies like Marks & Spencer, Tesco’s & Morrison’s.

The main thing is when sending in your CV’s do not just leave it at that, waiting for a response that may take ages to turn up that's if you receive a reply at all, follow up your CV with a call to the company make sure it has been received & find out who is dealing with the vacancies try & speak with them directly. This shows initiative to employers which they do like & it gives them an idea of your character.

This will build your confidence when speaking to people about what you can offer to their company as an employee.

Also the construction industry is a good area to look as there are still job vacancies in this sector so again try by approaching them directly the worst that is going to happen is “sorry we have nothing at this time” be cheeky ask if they know of a company who is hiring have a job vacancy these people know each other you may fall on some inside information about a vacancy coming up.

Another way forward is to look at temporary jobs on short term contracts this method of employment is proving popular with companies whereby employers do not have to commit to long term employment in these uncertain times.
