What to do on the Isle of Wight

One of the reasons many families choose the Island for a summer holiday or short break is because there are so many things to do on the Isle of Wight for visitors. The Isle of Wight has a rugged coastline with sheltered beaches and several areas of outstanding natural beauty.

There are family events including the newly opened  Farmer Jacks Maze next to Arreton Old Village, where you and the kids can enjoy wandering through the 4 miles of Maze before resting your feet next door at the Dairymans Daughter.

The Needles Park at Alum Bay offers spectacular views of the Needles light house and over the channel. There are pleasure rides and a chair lift that takes you to the beach below where you can see the Isle of Wight famous multi coloured sand or take a boat trip to the light house.

The 37th Island Steam Show is taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend an action-packed show and great family day out which is held at Havenstreet Railway Station. The Steam Railway are also running Sunset Specials on several days during August.

Brading Station is open to visitors that have an interest in learning about the history of the Islands railways and railway memorabilia. Whilst you are there take a leisurely walk to the RSPB Reserve on Brading Marshes and see what local wildlife and fauna you can catch sight of.

The month of August is a very busy and popular time for visitors as this is when the majority of the Isle of Wight Carnivals are taking place in many villages and towns across the Island.

Last year visitors and locals had the chance to experience 'Cinema Under the Stars' at Robin Hill Country Park, the event is returning again on 19th August and taking place over five nights showing some of our all time movie favourite's on a 10m x 5m screen.

For history buffs the Island has so much to offer from Country Manor Houses, Roman Villas, Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle which are both open daily to the public.

If you are up bright and early on a Saturday or Sunday morning, then head to the nearest Car Boot Sale where browsing the stalls for 'nik naks' or maybe seeking out the odd artefact can be well worth the early rise!

There are plenty of great days out & Isle of Wight Attractions  such as Black Gang Chine where the children can play at shooting cowboys with water pistols, have a go on a giant slide, and learn about the Islands pirates. 

Dinosour Isle in Sandown is Britains first purpose built dinosaur museum and houses the Island's Geology and fossil collections. The building itself was designed in the shape of a giant pterodactyl and inside showcases a full sized dinosour!!  Fossil walks and field trips are held regularly throughout the year.

Take the opportunity to feed the penguins and stroke Kangaroos as you leisurely stroll around the Seaview Wild Life Encounter on the outskirts of Ryde

The Best of the Westend is showing this summer season at Shanklin Theatre and there are several tribute acts and shows performing at Isle of Wight theatres throughout the coming months.
